The following is a summary of incidences that occurred or were reported to the Cordova Police Department Aug. 30 through Sept. 19, 2021. Defendant(s) are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Monday, August 30:

11:27 a.m.  An Officer responded to a complaint of a dog running loose near the corner of Whitshed Road and Copper River Highway.

12:22 p.m.  The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a medivac transport call.  The patient was transported from Cordova Community Medical Center to the airport.

3:01 p.m.  An Officer responded to a bear complaint in front of Alaska Wilderness Lodge Copper River Highway.

9:59 p.m.  Dispatch received a 911 call from an individual inquiring about phone lines.

Tuesday, August 31:

6:16 a.m.  A citizen reported receiving a fraudulent call from what was said to be “Boarder Patrol regarding a suspicious package.” 

7:01 a.m.  An Officer and a City Shop employee responded to a report of vehicular accident at Fleming Cove area (aka Shelter Cove/Hippie Cove.)

7:54 a.m.  Dispatch received a report of a bear going through a resident’s garbage in the McLaughlin Trailer Court. 

9:41 a.m.  A citizen reported receiving a fraudulent call regarding suspicious packages.

3:43 p.m.  An Officer responded to a Welfare Check request for an inebriated individual at the Old Harbor.  The individual was found to be able to walk unassisted. 

5:31 p.m.  Dispatch received a commercial fire alarm for Orca Lodge.  This was a false alarm.  

Wednesday, September 01:

7:47 a.m. The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a call on Third Street.  The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

2:34 p.m.  An Officer responded to a 911 report of a vehicular accident on Whitshed Road.

4:21 p.m.  An Officer responded to a Welfare Check request for an individual “slumped over” in driver’s seat of vehicle.  The individual was found to be napping. 

6:49 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of two friendly dogs running loose together – one, black with a white chest – the second, a smaller blonde with a white chest.

8:49 p.m.  Two Officers responded to a noise complaint at Sunset View Apartments. 

9:25 p.m.  An Officer reported his location to Dispatch as the Rifle Range.

10:23 p.m.  Two Officers and the Volunteer Fire Department responded to a commercial alarm for Trident Seafoods, Whitney Building.  An Officer determined the smoke alarm was triggered by a late-night popcorn craving gone bad. 

11:50 p.m.  Two Officers conducted a security check at the Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

Thursday, September 02:

12:15 a.m.  Two Officers reported sighting a box in the middle of LeFevre Avenue and Copper River Highway.  The box was forthwith removed from the road.

12:21 a.m.  Two Officers conducted a security check at a local establishment.

1:26 a.m.  Two Officers stopped to assist a disabled vehicle at Nicholoff and Harbor Loop Roads.

8:27 a.m.  An Officer reported his location to Dispatch as conducting School Zone speed enforcement.

8:49 a.m.  An Officer issued a warning to a motorist at Lake Avenue. 

1:08 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

1:27 p.m.  An Officer responded to a report of a golden orange dog running loose on Copper River Highway.  The human was quickly found and the two were reunited. 

2:27 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of two dead swans at Mile 15/16 – Sheridan Glacier Bridge.  Dispatch notified Alaska Wildlife Troopers.  

3:01 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of a bear living in caller’s backyard.

3:35 p.m.  The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a 911 call.  The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

10:36 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:51 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

11:21 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

Friday, September 03:

1:14 a.m.  An Officer issued a warning to a motorist at Nicholoff and Railroad Avenue.

2:09 a.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.  2:21 a.m.  The Officer provided a patron safe transportation to the individual’s place of residence. 

8:51 a.m.  An Officer responded to a bear complaint in neighbor’s garbage on Davis Avenue. 

9:08 a.m.  The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a 911 call.  The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

9:25 a.m.  An Officer issued a citation to a resident for negligently leaving garbage in a manner that attracts bears.

9:41 a.m.  A resident notified Dispatch of a controlled burn.

2:38 p.m.  The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a medical call.  The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

2:58 p.m.  An Officer responded to a patrol request at Mt. Eccles Elementary School. 

9:37 p.m.  An Officer issued a warning to a motorist at Mile 3 and Copper River Highway.

10:15 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

10:40 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Impound Lot. 

11:57 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Saturday, September 04:

12:04 a.m.  An Officer responded to a report of a burnout southwest of the Police Station. 

12:44 a.m.  An Officer responded to a noise complaint in the alley between Second and Third Streets. 

3:26 a.m.  An Officer responded to a 911 report from an intoxicated individual reporting fighting with another intoxicated individual who was urinating in the house. 

11:30 a.m.  An Officer responded to a bear complaint at Observation Alley.

1:14 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

4:39 p.m.  Three individuals came to the station to report an alleged assault from the prior evening. 

8:41 p.m.  An Officer responded to a Welfare Check request. 

10:33 p.m.  An Officer and the Emergency Medical Services team responded to a 911 call.  The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

Sunday, September 05:

12:35 a.m.  An Officer responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance.  An individual was brought to the Cordova Community Medical Center for evaluation.  The individual was then provided safe transportation to the individual’s place of residence. 

2:23 a.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

5:17 a.m.  Dispatch received a report of a bear at caller’s residence. 

11:26 a.m.  An Officer responded to a report of a vehicular accident at LeFevre and Lake Avenue.

12:14 p.m.  Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reported green leafy substance found in baggage. 

3:51 p.m.  An Officer served court documents

7:30 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of a bear on LeFevre Avenue. 

Monday, September 6:

12:42 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

1:40 p.m.  A citizen came to the station to report individuals possibly fishing over the legal limit at Alaganik Slough.  Dispatch notified Alaska Wildlife Troopers.

7:27 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of a bear on Railroad Row.

8:53 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Tuesday, September 7:

4:30 a.m.  An Officer responded to a noise complaint in Sunset View Apartments.

6:26 a.m.  An Officer responded to a noise complaint in Sunset View Apartments.

7:18 a.m.  An Officer issued a summons.

10:11 a.m.  An Officer responded to a noise complaint in Sunset View Apartments.

12:26 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

1:47 p.m.  An Officer responded to a Welfare Check.  

2:15 p.m.  Justin James, age 27, of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested on a bench warrant.

3:28 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

10:56 p.m.  An Officer responded to a bear complaint on Center Drive.

11:20 p.m.  An Officer issued a citation to a resident for negligently leaving garbage in a manner that attracts bears.

11:25 p.m.  An Officer responded to a bear complaint on Birch Street.

Wednesday, September 8:

1:01 a.m.  An Officer and the Emergency Medical Services team responded to a report of a fight at a local establishment.

2:34 a.m.  An Officer responded to a noise complaint in Sunset View Apartments.

4:43 a.m.  An Officer issued a warning.

6:46 a.m.  An Officer responded to a noise complaint in Sunset View Apartments.

12:25 p.m.  A citizen reported receiving a fraudulent call from what was said to be Amazon.

12:29 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

1:23 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of an individual allegedly inappropriately touching another.

3:58 p.m.  An Officer responded to a report of an illegally parked vehicle.

7:17 p.m.  The Volunteer Fire Department responded to a commercial alarm at Trident south.  This was a false alarm.

10:40 p.m.  An Officer responded to a noise complaint in Sunset View Apartments.

11:10 p.m.  Howard Hanson, age 64 of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested for disorderly conduct.

11:16 p.m.  An Officer responded to a report of an intoxicated individual lying on the ground outside 60* North. 

Thursday, September 9:

9:24 a.m.  An Officer responded to a report of Dispatch received a report of a motorist driving erratically.

Friday, September 10:

10:40 a.m.  An Officer responded to a report of an individual allegedly threatening another on Chase Avenue.

12:22 p.m.  A citizen reported receiving a fraudulent call from what was said to be Amazon.

4:36 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of individuals kayaking at Wrong Way were overdue by 3-hours. Dispatch notified United States Forest Service personnel. 

4:46 p.m. Caller reported the individuals kayaking had returned safely.

9:25 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

9:51 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:55 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

Saturday, September 11:

8:52 a.m.  Dispatch received inquiry from citizen regarding Tsunami Siren.

8:53 a.m.  Dispatch received inquiry from citizen regarding Tsunami Siren.

8:54 a.m.  Dispatch received inquiry from citizen regarding Tsunami Siren.

8:55 a.m.  Dispatch received inquiry from citizen regarding Tsunami Siren.

10:20 p.m.  An Officer responded to a report of underage drinkers at Power Creek with two individuals allegedly furnishing the alcohol to the minors. 

11:30 p.m.  An Officer provided safe transportation to an individual’s place of residence.

12:24 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

2:41 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

6:46 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of a bear on Fourth Avenue.

Monday, September 13:

8:38 a.m.  Dispatch received a report of a bonfire smelling of burning plastic.

10:58 a.m.  A citizen reported receiving a fraudulent call from what was said to be Amazon.

1:03 p.m.  An Officer issued a warning to a motorist.

1:05 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

Tuesday, September 14:

9:41 a.m.  James Kemp, age 24, of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested for Assault.

1:15 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

1:53 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of an individual sleeping in a truck on Main Street.

11:00 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

Wednesday, September 15:

6:51 a.m.  An Officer responded to a report of an alarm going off on Fourth Street near the Mt. Eyak Apartments. 

3:39 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of a bear between Third and Fourth Streets.

4:00 p.m.  The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a medivac transport call. The patient was transported from Cordova Community Medical Center to the airport.

9:57 p.m.  An Officer issued a citation to a motorist on Browning Avenue and Fourth Street.

10:09 p.m.  Two Officers, the Emergency Medical Services team, and the Volunteer Fire Department responded to a 911 call. The patient was transported to the Cordova Community Medical Center.

11:23 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

Thursday, September 16:

5:03 p.m.  An Officer responded to a commercial alarm at First National Bank Alaska. This was a false alarm.

7:28 p.m.  A citizen called Dispatch requesting to speak with an Officer. The caller was transferred to an Officer. 

9:51 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:09 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Friday, September 17:

7:33 a.m. An Officer responded to a report of an individual allegedly behaving aggressively up in the brush in the vicinity of Orca Lodge. 

7:35 a.m. Dispatch received a request to speak with an Officer regarding a neighbor.

10:27 a.m.  An Officer, the Fire Chief, the Volunteer Fire Department, and a City Shop employee responded to a report of a vehicle in the lake spotted by an aircraft pilot.

12:15 p.m.  A local business requested two individuals be trespassed. 

4:13 p.m.  A resident notified Dispatch of a controlled burn.

8:26 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of an individual running their dog next to vehicle and performing a U-turn on a blind curve.   

9:39 p.m.  An Officer issued a warning to a motorist at Mile 5 Copper River Highway.

9:42 p.m.  An Officer reported to Dispatch spotting wood in the road.  The Officer cleaned up the wood.

10:15 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

10:55 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Saturday, September 18:

12:45 a.m.  An Officer responded to a report of gun shots near Heney Trailer Court.  The source of the sound was discovered to be firecrackers being set off in the Forest Service parking lot. 

11:38 a.m.  Dispatch received a report of a bear in Heney Trailer Court.

12:56 p.m.  An Officer responded to a report of a motorist driving erratically on Copper River Highway. 

4:47 p.m.  An Officer reported to Dispatch spotting a barrel in the middle of the road at Railroad and First Avenue. The Officer removed the barrel from the middle of road.

4:50 p.m. The Officer observed a moving vehicle dropping several items, to include barrels. The Officer assisted the motorist by tightening a loose ratchet strap. The motorist agreed to obtain a skid steer to round up the fugitive barrels. 

5:11 p.m.  Dispatch received a report from a concerned citizen of a vehicle losing about 6 containers. 

6:05 p.m.  An Officer served papers.

10:52 p.m.  An Officer issued a warning to a motorist on LeFevre and Chase Avenue. 

11:50 p.m.  An Officer responded to a report of a lot of glass on Main Street in front of Copper River Fleece. 

Sunday, September 19:

2:30 a.m.  An Officer reported location to Dispatch as Main Street, cleaning up glass.

10:32 a.m.  Dispatch received a report of a dead beaver floating on the bank at about Mile 18. 

10:43 a.m.  Dispatch received a report of duck decoys within 3-miles of city limits. 

4:34 p.m.  Dispatch received a noise complaint on Spruce Street.

5:00 p.m.  Dispatch received a noise complaint on Spruce Street.

4:42 p.m.  An Officer assisted a motorist in distress.

5:08 p.m.  Dispatch received a noise complaint on Spruce Street. 5:14 p.m. An Officer responded to noise complaint(s).
