Law & Order: Sept. 20-Oct. 3

The following is a summary of incidents that occurred or were reported to the Cordova Police Department Sept. 20-Oct. 3, 2021. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Monday, Sept. 20:

1:55 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.              

2:09 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

6:14 p.m. An Officer served legal papers.

11:41 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Mavis Island plane dock.

Tuesday, Sept. 21:

10:08 a.m. The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a 911 call at Sunset View Apartments. The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

10:43 a.m. Two residents came to the station to meet with an Officer.

12:26 p.m. An Officer responded to a complaint of three individuals allegedly dumping (3) garbage cans full of moose bones.

1:02 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

3:47 p.m. A citizen came to the station to be fingerprinted.

10:10 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Mavis Island plane dock.

10:23 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Wednesday, Sept. 22:

1:24 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.  

12:38 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

1:14 p.m. The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a medical transport call. The patient was transported from the airport to the patient’s residence.

2:14 p.m. An Officer, the Fire Marshal, the Volunteer Fire Department, and the Emergency Medical Services team responded to a 911 report of a vehicle rollover in front of ACE Hardware. Patients were transported to Cordova Community Medical Center. There were no injuries.

5:11 p.m. Two Officers responded to a report of gunshots fired at Mile 6.5.

6:03 p.m. Two Officers served papers.

6:19 p.m. Two Officers issued a warning to a motorist.

11:37 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Thursday, Sept. 23:

12:12 a.m. Two Officers conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.        

8:14 a.m. Dispatch received a bear complaint from Mile 1.6. The individual stated the bears are breaking down the bird feeders every night.

12:26 p.m. An Officer reported location to Dispatch as picking up luggage off the Copper River Highway by the pavilion. The Officer brought the luggage to the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

12:27 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

7:11 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of a black dog on Whitshed Road “bad with porcupine quills.” The dog was reunited with the owner prior to the Officer’s arrival.

8:35 p.m. An Officer responded to a bear complaint on Center Drive.

10:03 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:24 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

11:21 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

Friday, Sept. 24:

12:15 a.m. An Officer reported location to Dispatch as heading towards Orca Inlet after observing a school bus heading towards same.

4:13 a.m. Dispatch received a report of a boat that has broken loose in the harbor. Dispatch contacted the Harbor Master.

12:10 p.m. An Officer responded to a report by the Cordova Jr./Sr. High School of an alleged assault occurring at the city ballfield.

2:03 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

9:28 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist on Mile 1.3 Whitshed Road.

9:54 p.m. Dispatch received an anonymous report of an anticipated possible drunk driver soon to leave a local establishment.

Saturday, Sept. 25:

12:11 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

12:20 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

1:12 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.  

1:34 a.m. An Officer reported location to Dispatch as assisting a disabled vehicle on LeFevre Street and Copper River Highway.

3:27 a.m. The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a 911 call at Sunset View Apartments. The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

4:27 a.m. An Officer reported location to Dispatch as attempting to apprehend a fleeing dog at Second Street and Lake Avenue.

4:28 a.m. The offending dog reportedly huffed at the Officer and walked away. [Dogs 4, Officer 2. (The writer looked back through reports from July 2, 2021.) Game on!]

8:30 a.m. The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a medical transport call. The patient was transported from the Cordova Community Medical Center to the airport.

10:07 a.m. A caller reported a missing dog, last seen on Lake Avenue.

8:41 p.m. An Officer reported location to Dispatch as Whitshed near the ballfield, picking up debris from the road.

9:01 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of burnouts.

10:11 p.m. An Officer issued a citation to a motorist on Railroad Avenue and Copper River Highway.

10:30 p.m. An Officer issued a citation to a motorist on Chase Avenue and Copper River Highway.

10:46 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:56 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

11:38 p.m. An Officer issued a citation to a motorist on LeFevre Street and Copper River Highway.

11:49 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

Sunday, Sept. 26:

12:33 a.m. An Officer issued a citation to a motorist at Railroad Avenue and Copper River Highway.

8:23 a.m. Dispatch received a 911 report that Copper River Highway was slick with black ice.

11:15 a.m. A citizen came to the station for a lockout kit.

5:23 p.m. A caller reported a leaking car.

8:36 p.m. The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a 911 call on Birch Street. The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

Monday, Sept. 27

2:03 a.m. The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a medevac transport call. The patient was transported from Cordova Community Medical Center to the airport.

10:53 a.m. A caller asked to speak with an Officer.

12:34 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

2:42 p.m. A resident notified Dispatch of a controlled burn.

7:12 p.m. An Officer served papers.

8:26 p.m. Dispatch received a report a moose was hit at Mile 10 Copper River Highway.

9:28 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist on Chase Avenue and Copper River Highway.

9:38 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist on First Street and Adams Avenue.

Tuesday, Sept. 28

12:09 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

9:28 a.m. The Fire Marshal and an Alaska State Trooper responded to a report of a brown bear caching at Mile 9 Copper River Highway.

9:30 a.m. Dispatch received a report of a couple of packages on the road.

10:29 a.m. Dispatch received a report of alleged pornography.

11:35 a.m. Dispatch received a report of a dead brown bear at Mile 17 Land Fill.

1:18 p.m. A resident notified Dispatch of a controlled burn.

5:31 p.m. The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a medevac transport call. The patient was transported from Cordova Community Medical Center to the airport.

Wednesday, Sept. 29

12:53 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

12:24 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

12:42 p.m. A resident notified Dispatch of a controlled burn.

1:19 p.m. A resident notified Dispatch of a controlled burn.          

7:32 p.m. An Officer responded to a 911 report of a man with a dog at the marina boat launch.

8:49 p.m. Two Officers conducted a security check at a local establishment.

9:14 p.m. Two Officers conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Thursday, Sept. 30

12:23 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

9:53 a.m. Dispatch received a report of alleged pornography.

1:04 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

6:52 p.m. Dispatch received a report of a bear by Eagle Construction.

Friday, Oct. 1

9:35 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of an alleged assault.

10:30 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

11:03 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

11:06 p.m. An Officer responded to a bear complaint on Second Street.

Saturday, Oct. 2

1:01 a.m. An Officer conducted a traffic stop at Main Street and Council Avenue.

1:20 a.m. A second Officer was called to the scene. 1:35 a.m. A City Shop employee was called to the scene to impound the vehicle.

2:00 a.m. Kyle Faglie, age 36, of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

6:25 p.m. A resident notified Dispatch of a bonfire.

10:12 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist on Main Street and Council Avenue.

10:13 p.m. An Officer reported location to Dispatch as Railroad Avenue and Copper River Highway getting debris out of the road.

11:36 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

Sunday, Oct. 3

11:35 a.m. Dispatch received a complaint regarding a neighbor from a resident at the Cordova Mews Apartments.

5:22 p.m. A resident notified Dispatch of a controlled burn.

10:23 p.m. An Officer responded to a bear complaint on Center Drive.

11:59 p.m. An Officer responded to a 911 report of an active fight in the middle of Railroad Avenue.
