Obituary: Paul (Hi Fi) Kristian Gundersen Jr.

August 12, 1954 – October 3, 2021

Paul (Hi Fi) Kristian Gundersen Jr., 67 years old, left us after a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer. His wife Debbie of 45 years, and his three children were with him to the end surrounding him in love. He was known by many, by the many different hats he wore (airport operations, heavy equipment, carpenter) but his favorite hat was his fishing hat. A commercial fisherman who started fishing as a boy and continued fishing to the last month of his life. As a self-taught musician he would play guitar and sing at home most days. If you were lucky, you would find him playing with his friends when they got together. He was always kind, generous and loyal to all. A man true to his compass, he never drifted on the beach in life he always managed to keep his family safe loved and cared for through the many storms of life.

He was a man of old… a warrior…a legend… He was our person.

He was preceded in death by his parents Katie and Paul Gundersen, Sr.; Lloyd Gundersen, Darrel Gundersen, Duane Gundersen and Katie Galovin.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife Debra Gundersen; children Amber Karlsen, Anthony Gundersen and Paul Gundersen, III of Sand Point; son-in-law Sam Irwin; daughters-in-law Stacy Gundersen and Shelee Gundersen of Sand Point; grandchildren Faith Karlsen, Eli Seibold, Mallorie Wilson, Brooke Wilson, Vanessa Wilson, Leo Gunderson, all of Anchorage, and Steven Galovin, Kristian Gundersen, Hogan, and Camden Smith, all of Sand Point; siblings Connie (Richard) Kochuten, George (Arlene) Gundersen, Brenda Gilbert, Berna (Victor) Dushkin, Crystal (Gus) Carlsen, and Sophie (Hubert) Mack, all of Sand Point; and stepmother Mary Gundersen of Sand Point.
