Federal agencies reaffirm commitment to protect endangered species

Five federal entities have reaffirmed their commitment to work with one another and with stakeholders to protect endangered species, provide effective pest control tools and regulate pesticide use in a transparent and predictable manner.

The announcement on Wednesday, Nov. 3, came in the wake of an Oct. 15 meeting of the Environmental Protection Agency, the White House Council on Environmental Quality, and the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce and the Interior as an interagency working group created under the 2018 Farm Bill to discuss improvements to the Endangered species act section 7 consultation process for pesticide registration and registration review.

The group’s first meeting under the Biden-Harris administration resulted in specific commitments to improve the pesticide consultation process for endangered species and engaging stakeholders including by capitalizing on strong interest among stakeholders for a workable process, they said.
