USFS invites artist applicants for wilderness experience

U.S. Forest Service officials are inviting interest in its 2022 summer season Voices of the Wilderness Artist-in-Residence Program in Alaska, with applications being accepted through March 1.

The Alaska-based program is open to artists from all over the world. Those chosen will be partnered with a wilderness specialist to take part in research or stewardship projects while creating art in some of the most unique places in Alaska. Their final artwork is often used in environmental education materials to help others learn more about the value of national forests.

The 2022 program will debut 11 wilderness areas, including areas managed by the Forest Service, within the U.S. Department of Agriculture, along with the National Park Service and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. It is open to artists of all types, from visual to audio, performance art and more.
