Aurora Music Festival

The Aurora Music Festival is an annual event that includes students from 15 different high schools from 14 communities across the State. Cordova High School will be hosting this event with over 300 visitors from April 7-9.

CAYAC meeting

Time to start thinking of spring and summer youth activities. Whether it be basketball, soccer, flag football, or forming a various club (kayaking, hiking, biking, rollerblading), join the discussion 5:15 p.m. Friday, April 8, at The Powder House. Moose fundraiser

The Cordova Moose Lodge is hosting a fundraiser to help purchase new tables and chairs at the lodge from 6-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 9. Halibut enchilada plates are $20 each and come with enchiladas, beans and rice. Take and bake options also available as well as a dessert auction. Preorders encouraged but not required. Call the Moose Lodge at 907-424-3688 after 4:30 p.m. Need not be a member to participate.

Wild and Scenic Film Festival

In celebration of Earth Day, the Copper River Watershed Project is partnering with the Wild and Scenic Film Festival to bring a hybrid event to Cordova on Friday, April 22. Visit copperriver.org for more info and to purchase tickets.

Cordova Clean-Up Day

The Cordova Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Cordova High School Student Council will be organizing this year’s Cordova Clean-Up Day. Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 23. Film and adventure

Cordova Gear and The Net Loft are hosting a day of adventure art and film with artist/filmmaker Max Romey. Two art workshops will be offered during the day and viewing of Romey’s latest film “Trailbound Alaska” starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at the North Star Theater. Call for Artists

The Cordova Historical Society presents “Avian Art”, a group bird art show featuring works by local Cordova artists and “Birds by Hand”. Open to all artists over 18, all media, all birds. Copper River Royale

Cordova’s high-fashion gala, Dressed to Kill, is back this year with a James Bond theme, Copper River Royale. Funds raised will go towards Alaska Adventure Learning, a Cordova summer camp program. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, at The Reluctant Fisherman with ladies only from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and gentlemen welcome after 11 p.m. Tickets now available for purchase at The Reluctant.

Copper River Delta Shorebird Hybrid Festival

This year’s in-person and virtual festival is set for May 5-8. Registration is now open. Visit coppershorebird.com for details.

Bay to Bay in May

Run 9.1 miles or bike 6.1 then run 3 miles from Hartney Bay to Orca Bay on May 7. Customizable Copper River Fleece jackets go to the most average male and female times. Used book sale

The Hospital Auxiliary used book sale is through May 9 in the basement of the hospital. There are lots of books as well as puzzles, videos and music that are looking for a new home.

Student Art Show

Cordova Museum’s Copper River Gallery presents a Student Art Show by Mt. Eccles Elementary School through April 30. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tues. through Fri. and noon to 5 p.m. Sat.

Hunter Education

Learn to hunt safely and responsibly at your own pace online. The certificate meets the requirements of hunter education in all 50 states where required. The cost is $19.95. In addition to the online course, the completion of the mandatory field day and shooting is also required. Field day date TBD. Call for musicians

Vaccinated and masked singers and musicians are invited to the Cordova Community Center every Monday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. to perform live gospel music for hospital residents. For more information, contact Rev. Belle Mickelson at 907-388-4447.

March Book Madness

The Cordova School District is hosting a free book giveaway. New books for all ages are available now through March downstairs at Mt. Eccles Elementary School district office on Second Street, left of the bus loading zone. Stop by during regular office hours before spring break and load up on great reading materials. Donations accepted.

Monthly Poetry Showcase

Cordova Public Library’s Monthly Poetry Showcase meets the last Friday of each month at 6 p.m. via Zoom. At the start of each month a theme is announced. Support Group

CCMC is looking to start a support group for individuals identifying within the LGBTQ community and/or parents of those identifying within the LGBTQ community.
