The following is a summary of incidences that occurred or were reported to the Cordova Police Department March 28 through April 3, 2022. Defendant(s) are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Monday, March 28:

  • 1:19 a.m. An officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 10:11 a.m. An officer responded to a citizen’s request to speak with an officer on the phone.
  • 4:24 p.m. An officer responded to a citizen’s request to speak with an officer on the phone.
  • 7:42 p.m. An officer responded to a Patrol Request at Second Street and Copper River Highway.
  • 8:58 p.m. An officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

Tuesday, March 29:

  • 7:48 a.m. An officer responded to a call on Lake Avenue.
  • 8:08 a.m. Christian Johnson, age 47, of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested for Misconduct Involving Weapons in the Fourth Degree.
  • 10:56 a.m. An officer responded to a citizen’s request to speak with an officer on the phone.
  • 1:17 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 1:56 p.m. An officer testified in Court.
  • 2:35 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 6:31 p.m. An officer responded to a 911 call from Council Avenue regarding a Runaway Juvenile. The Juvenile was returned home.

Wednesday, March 30:

  • 12:47 a.m. An officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 8:04 a.m. Dispatch received a report of a “sickly-looking,” reddish-brown dog roaming around Eighth Street without a collar.
  • 8:43 a.m. An officer testified in Court.
  • 8:51 a.m. An officer conducted security and traffic patrol at the Mt. Eccles Elementary School.
  • 9:06 a.m. An officer conducted security and traffic patrol at the Cordova Jr./Sr. High School.
  • 1:11 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 2:43 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

Thursday, March 31:

  • 1:14 a.m. An officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 8:17 a.m. An officer issued a Warning to a motorist on Railroad Avenue.
  • 8:24 a.m. An officer issued a Warning to a motorist on Railroad Avenue.
  • 8:30 a.m. An officer issued a Warning to a motorist on Main Street.
  • 8:30 a.m. An officer conducted security and traffic patrol at the Mt. Eccles Elementary School.
  • 8:42 a.m. An officer conducted security and traffic patrol at the Cordova Jr/Sr High School.
  • 10:59 a.m. An officer responded to a citizen’s request to speak with an officer on the phone.
  • 11:33 a.m. An officer issued a Warning to a motorist on Main Street.
  • 11:38 a.m. An officer issued a Warning to a motorist on Main Street.
  • 12:17 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 2:02 p.m. An officer issued a Warning to a motorist on Copper River Highway.
  • 2:08 p.m. An officer issued a Citation to a motorist on Copper River Highway.
  • 2:48 p.m. An officer issued a Warning to a motorist on Copper River Highway.
  • 2:53 p.m. An officer issued a Warning to a motorist on Copper River Highway.
  • 8:34 p.m. Dispatch received a report of black smoke coming from across the bay. It was discovered to be a controlled burn.

Friday, April 1:

  • 9:07 a.m. An officer conducted security and traffic patrol at the Mt. Eccles Elementary School.
  • 9:13 a.m. An officer conducted follow-up on a Domestic Violence case.
  • 9:26 a.m. An officer issued a Warning to a motorist on Main Street.
  • 9:42 a.m. The Emergency Medical Services team and an officer responded to a 911 call on Observation Avenue. The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.
  • 10:08 a.m. Three citizens came to the station for work required random Breathalyzer tests.
  • 12:50 p.m. An officer on Chase Avenue reported trying to pick up a dog.
  • 1:55 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 3:39 p.m. An officer conducted follow-up on a Domestic Violence case.
  • 4:38 p.m. Two officers conducted follow-up on a Domestic Violence case.
  • 6:46 p.m. Two officers conducted a traffic stop.
  • 7:05 p.m. Donovin Fonzi, age 15, of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested for Driving Without Operator’s License.
  • 8:02 p.m. An officer responded to a 911 call requesting a Welfare Check at Sunset View Apartments. The individual was found to be fine.

Saturday, April 2:

  • 1:20 p.m. David Johannessen, age 35, of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested for Violating Domestic Violence Protective Order.
  • 4:28 p.m. An officer on Chase Avenue reported attempting to pick up two dogs. 4:30 p.m. The officer was able to get the dogs to go home.
  • 8:14 p.m. Dispatch received a complaint regarding an alleged aggressive dog.
  • 8:53 p.m. The Fire Department and an officer responded to a report of “a lot of smoke” coming from “somewhere around Ski Hill area behind the Cordova Moose Lodge.” 9:05 p.m. Dispatch received a second call regarding “smoke everywhere.” 9:15 p.m. It was discovered to be a Controlled Burn, however, deemed too large for the area according to City Ordinance No. 8.24.020. 9:22 p.m. The Fire Marshal instructed the homeowner to put the fire out.

Sunday, April 3:

  • 1:40 a.m. An officer responded to a noise complaint.
  • 1:01 p.m. An officer issued a Warning to a motorist at Mile 12 Copper River Highway.
  • 1:04 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 5:35 p.m. Dispatch received a dog complaint on South Second Street.
  • 9:07 p.m. An officer responded to a 911 report of a suspected impaired motorist. The motorist was found not impaired however did not have a valid driver’s license. The vehicle was impounded, and the officer provided the driver transportation to a residence.
  • 11:19 p.m. An officer responded to a 911 call requesting a Welfare Check. The individual was fine.
