Law & Order: April 18-24

The following is a summary of incidences that occurred or were reported to the Cordova Police Department April 18 through April 24, 2022. Defendant(s) are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Monday, April 18:

  • 2:55 a.m. An officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 12:26 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 1:35 p.m. Dispatch received a complaint regarding debris at a beach on Power Creek Road.
  • 2:07 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 5:05 p.m. A resident came to the station to be fingerprinted.
  • 5:37 p.m. A resident reported their truck just slid off the road into the water at Mile 1 Cabin Lake Road. An officer responded. The registered owner will have the vehicle towed.
  • 6:53 p.m. The volunteer Emergency Medical Services team responded to a medivac transport call. The patient was transported from Cordova Community Medical Center to the airport.
  • 7:19 p.m. An officer responded to a report of two individuals on minibikes riding erratically.
  • 7:39 p.m. A resident came to the station turning in a Smart Watch as Lost and Found property. A PO Box was visible on the packaging enabling Dispatch to contact the owner who correctly identified the watch. The owner came to the station to retrieve the property.
  • 8:19 p.m. Dispatch received a call reporting “hoodlums” riding minibikes, 4-wheelers, and 3-wheelers speeding “all over town.” The adult riders were contacted and given warnings about riding off-road vehicles on City streets.
  • 9:04 p.m. Dispatch received an anonymous report of a vehicle with a wrong license plate.
  • 11:25 p.m. Dispatch received a call regarding the truck off the road on Cabin Lake Road.

Tuesday, April 19:

  • 1:14 a.m. An officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 12:08 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a reckless driver on Nicholoff Way.
  • 12:57 p.m. Dispatch received a dog complaint at Cordova Mews Apartments.
  • 1:12 p.m. A resident came to the station to speak with an Officer.
  • 5:01 p.m. Dispatch received a report of a Jeep parked on the side of the road on Power Creek Road by Davis Cove with all 4-doors open. The caller was concerned perhaps someone was in distress.
  • 5:07 p.m. Dispatch received a report of a motorist driving erratically on Copper River Highway.
  • 6:38 p.m. An officer investigated the parked Jeep. 6:40 p.m. A driver came to pick up the Jeep.
  • 7:06 p.m. Dispatch received a complaint regarding individuals riding minibikes recklessly.
  • 10:33 p.m. An officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

Wednesday, April 20:

  • 6:24 a.m. A Staff member of the Bob Korn Memorial Swimming Pool reported a break-in. Footage was obtained and an investigation is ongoing.
  • 10:06 a.m. An officer went to Court.
  • 11:10 a.m. A resident came to the station to speak with an officer.
  • 12:31 p.m. Dispatch received a Commercial Alarm at Trident Seafoods South plant. The responsible party was contacted and advised that it was just a test.
  • 12:37 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 1:42 p.m. An officer and the Fire Marshal responded to a 911 report of blue smoke on Chase Avenue. This was a controlled burn that had not been reported to Dispatch prior to being lit.
  • 2:23 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 3:50 p.m. A resident came to the station to register an ATV.
  • 3:52 p.m. An officer conducted follow-up on a breaking and entering case.
  • 6:14 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a reckless driver.
  • 8:56 p.m. Two Officers responded to a complaint of a burn too large for the area. The owner was ordered to extinguish the blaze.

Thursday, April 21:

  • 1:37 a.m. Two Officers conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 1:28 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 1:44 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a reckless driver on Second Street.
  • 8:06 p.m. A caller reported not having electricity. Dispatch assisted the caller by contacting Cordova Electric Cooperative.

Friday, April 22:

  • 12:53 a.m. The volunteer Emergency Medical Services team responded to a medivac transport call. The patient was transported from Cordova Community Medical Center to the airport.
  • 1:33 a.m. An officer responded to a report of a truck in a ditch on Whitshed Road.
  • 2:08 a.m. An officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 6:00 a.m. Dispatch received a report of a brown bear at Mile 4 Copper River Highway trying to enter caller’s residence. Dispatch notified the Alaska Wildlife Troopers.
  • 6:49 a.m. Dispatch received a call reporting the truck in a ditch on Whitshed Road.
  • 1:36 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 2:21 p.m. A resident contacted Dispatch asking if a wallet had been turned in as Lost and Found Property.
  • 3:07 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
  • 3:24 p.m. A resident contacted Dispatch asking if a brown wallet had been turned in as Lost and Found Property.
  • 8:26 p.m. An officer responded to an anonymous tip.
  • 11:01 p.m. An officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Saturday, April 23:

  • 9:36 p.m. An officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.
  • 10:41 p.m. An officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.
  • 10:51 p.m. An officer issued a Warning to a Motorist on Copper River Highway and Whitshed Road.
  • 11:44 p.m. An officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

Sunday, April 24:

  • 11:32 a.m. Dispatch received a report of a tarp floating in the water across from the Harbor Master’s office. The Harbor Master was notified.
  • 12:44 p.m. An officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
