Archibald leads new board of PWSRCAC

Robert Archibald was elected as the new president of the Prince William Sound Citizens’ Advisory Council, during its annual board meeting in Valdez May 5-6, with Amanda Bauer as vice president, Bob Shavelson as secretary and Wayne Donaldson as treasurer.

Archibald represents the city of Homer, Bauer the city of Valdez, Shavelson the Oil Spill Region Environmental Coalition, and Donaldson the city of Kodiak.

Also elected were three members-at-large: Ben Cutrell, representing Chugach Alaska Corp., Robert Beedle, representing the city of Cordova, and Angela Totemoff, for the community of Tatitlek.

The council also recognized its many volunteers from all over the Exxon Valdez oil spill disaster region.

The PWSRCAC, with offices in Anchorage and Valdez, is an independent non-profit corporation whose mission is to promote the environmentally safe operation of the Valdez Marine Terminal and associated oil tankers. Its work is guided by the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, and its contract with Alyeska Pipeline Service Company. The council’s 18 member organizations are communities in the region affected by the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill disaster, as well as aquaculture, commercial fishing, environmental, Alaska Native, recreation and tourism groups.
