The Dunleavy administration on Monday, May 23, announced that former Corrections Commissioner Nancy Dahlstrom had joined his reelection campaign effort to be Alaska’s next lieutenant governor.

The announcement from the Dunleavy campaign followed by hours an earlier announcement from the governor’s office that Dahlstrom has resigned the commissioner’s post, but gave no reason for her decision.

The governor’s office said that Jen Winkelman, a long-time corrections employee, has accepted the role of acting commissioner of the department.

Dahlstrom, a former legislator, also served as a special assistant to former Gov. Sean Parnell.  Winkelman most recently served as director of pretrial, probation and parole.
