About the Author

Hasan Bowman grew up playing with plants, eating wild greens, and leaving them gifts of thanks. When he moved to Cordova at age 3, he became obsessed with picking mushrooms. At age 8, he now cooks and eats his mushrooms, too.

About the Artist

“Looking Out” is a watercolor by local artist Darla Church of the view above Eyak Lake from the mountainside of Mt. Eccles, a popular hiking area for Cordovans. Darla is a retired teacher and future Problem Solving coach who has enjoyed art all of her life. She is the designer and artist of “Ice, Iron and Fire” in the lower entrance of the Cordova Center.

This poem and painting were originally published in the “Fresh” themed Spring 2022 edition of The Catch, Cordova’s literary & arts quarterly publication.
