Katherine Keith promoted to DOT post

Transportation industry veteran Katherine Keith has been named the new deputy commissioner of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT), filling a vacancy left by the departure of Rob Carpenter in December.

Keith will oversee several multi-model transportation programs focusing on safety, economic vitality, resiliency, and sustainability, and lead the department’s community engagement efforts and organizational teaming initiatives.

Keith has over 20 years of experience working in rural Alaska and previously worked on projects in energy storage and distribution, transportation, ferry electrification and strategic planning. She joined the DOT in 2021 as the change management director, after a career as a consultant.

Keith holds an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree in renewable energy engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
