Sea Grant plans March workshop on starting aquatic kelp farms

Alaska Sea Grant has announced a hands-on workshop from March 21 through March 24 in Kodiak on how to start up aquatic kelp farms. Applications for participation are due by Jan. 27.

The course is designed for individuals interested in learning the regulatory process of starting a farm, building a kelp farming array, deploying gear on the water, seeding lines, and more. Some activities will require participants to work with farming equipment on a small vessel in nearshore waters.

Lunches and materials for all activities are to be provided.

The workshop is limited to 10 participants.

Approved applicants will be notified by Feb. 3 and must pay the $200 tuition by March 1 to reserve their spot in the workshop. Applicants may request scholarship assistance.
