New mobile app offers increased accessibility of Bristol Bay Native place names

The free Geographic Information System (GIS) map-based app, available in the iOS App Store, allows users to click on locations throughout Bristol Bay to learn their names in languages including Alutiiq/Sugpiaq, Dena’ina, and Yup’ik.  Users can also listen to audio pronunciations of many names and test their knowledge with quizzes.

HB 322 protects future funds for marine highway, scholarships

House Bill 322, designed to protect funding sources for the Alaska Marine Highway and higher education scholarships, has passed the Legislature and now awaits Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s signature.
