A new chapter

It has been six weeks since The Cordova Times was on newsstands. I am thrilled to welcome you to the first print edition since taking ownership of the paper, and I thank you for your patience during this transition period. It’s truly an honor to take on the responsibility of continuing this institution of record in Prince William Sound, and I owe great gratitude to The Native Village of Eyak for its management and care these past years, and for giving to the community of Cordova in this way.

Proposals to be considered for ownership of The Cordova Times are due to Native Village of Eyak by May 1. At a Tuesday, Feb. 15, NVE Tribal Council meeting, councilmembers addressed the Tribe’s desire to find a new owner for The Cordova Times.

The Cordova Times seeks new owner

Native Village of Eyak is looking for a new owner for The Cordova Times. The price? Free. Without a suitable candidate, the 108-year-old newspaper may cease to publish. The Tribal government in Cordova, Alaska, has owned the local weekly newspaper since April 2016.

The Cordova Times named best Alaska weekly for 2nd year running

The Alaska Press Club named The Cordova Times Alaska’s best weekly newspaper for the second year running, and recognized the paper for its coverage of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Cordova Times won first place for best weekly newspaper in Alaska and 10 other honors in the Alaska Press Club’s annual awards announced Saturday, April 18.
