Long-tailed Ducks, formerly known as Oldsquaw, are common winter residents of Prince William Sound.
As many as 600 of these birds have been counted during one of Cordova’s past Christmas Bird Counts.

The 46th annual Christmas Bird Count will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16. Meet at 8 a.m. at the Cordova Center’s education room by the library to get a route assignment. There will be a potluck that evening. Beginner birders are welcome! In preparation for the bird count there will also be a review of winter birds 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 at the Forest Service, 3rd floor conference room.
