Libertarian Candidate for U.S. Senate: Joe Miller

Miller: “It’s time to stand up and say ‘no’ to big spending”

Commentary By Joe Miller

For The Cordova Times

It is no secret that our nation is in trouble: mounting national debt, deficits as far as the eye can see, social unrest, and an economy that has all but flat-lined. The State of Alaska is not in much better shape.

Clearly we can no longer afford government of the bureaucrats, by the lobbyists, for the special interests. But the corrupt political elites aren’t going to go quietly into the night.

Whether in Alaska or Washington DC, the result is the same: Wall Street, Big Corporations, and favored special interests always seem to flourish, while the politicians continue to dip into our pockets to pay for their reckless spending addiction.

That’s why Alaskans were just hit with a massive regressive tax scheme that cost every man, woman and child half of their PFDs. It’s time to stand up and say “no” to big spending, big government politicians like Lisa Murkowski, who voted for a State income tax and PFD grab when she served in the State Legislature.

Her views have not changed since becoming a U.S. Senator. Earlier this year, she suggested that your PFD should be on the table as a possible solution to the state government’s spending addiction.

While in Washington, she played an integral role in growing the size and the scope of the federal government over our daily lives.

The National Debt has increased over $13 trillion on her watch. Not surprisingly, she has voted for almost every single debt ceiling increase.

Whether it is voting with President Obama’s anti-Alaska agenda 72 percent of the

time during the last Congress (more than any other GOP senator up for re-election); voting to confirm Obama’s poster child for federal overreach — Sally Jewell — as Secretary of the Interior; or voting to confirm activist judges on the federal bench, Lisa Murkowski’s loyalty is to the big government political elite in Washington.

If you honor me with your vote, I’ll fight to protect your interests, not the special interests. Together, we can bring back Alaska’s economy and put unemployed Alaskans back to work.

You have my word, if I am your next United States senator, my number one objective will be to bring back state and local control of our resources. Whether it is fish and game management, energy production, better educational opportunities for our young people, or access to services for our veterans — I’ll have your back.

Another of my key priorities will be ensuring our nation’s immigration laws are enforced. I support legal immigration. My daughter is married to a Mexican national; two of my siblings are married to immigrants; and my in-laws are immigrants.

But I oppose Obama’s illegal executive amnesty, something Murkowski voted to fund. Americans shouldn’t lose their jobs to cheap, illegal labor.

Further, the administration’s Islamic refugee resettlement must end, given the major security risks to our country.

My governing priorities will be driven by a profound respect for the Constitution. The purpose of government is to secure our liberties, not infringe upon them.

Of course, our first liberty is the right to life. I am the only U.S. senate candidate that has been endorsed by Alaska Right to Life.

Additionally, my candidacy received the backing of Gun Owners of America. The Second Amendment is essential to our liberty. We must resist all efforts to thwart this fundamental right.

Having fought as a tank commander in the Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm/Desert Shield), I have also been endorsed by Combat Veterans for Congress.

It’s time for Alaskans to take control of Alaska’s destiny. With courage and hard work, the fortunes of America and Alaska can turn again. I believe a return to Constitutional government can right the ship of state. It is the only answer to the politics of division ruthlessly exercised by Democrats and Republicans alike. It’s time to break up the Washington Cartel.

I’d be honored to have your vote.
