Annual Cordova Clean-Up Day is April 15

Cordova Cleanup Day is looking for volunteers to don plastic gloves, grab garbage bags, and help clean up their city on April 15.

The cleanup will begin at 10 a.m. Community volunteers are asked to pick up garbage bags and plastic gloves at the Cordova Cleanup table at the Cordova Center and to check the deployment map to see which areas need cleaned up. Volunteers are invited to return to the Cordova Center at noon for a free picnic lunch.

Cordova Cleanup Day is an independent, non-profit 501c3 organization with its sole mission to organize an annual spring cleanup effort with full community participation that hopefully leads to a cleaner Cordova year-round.

The Cordova Baler Facility and 17 Mile Landfill will be open from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for residential solid waste disposal. The Baler Facility will only accept yellow bags and household trash free of charge. All other loads must go to the 17 Mile Landfill to be disposed of for free. Batteries may be dropped off at Napa/Anchor Auto for disposal. No vehicles will be accepted on Clean Up Day. A vehicle disposal day will be held in October. Call the Cordova Baler at 424-5600 for details and program requirements.

The Cordova Chamber is asking local businesses to consider forming teams to help with the cleanup efforts on the 15th, or to make a $50 donation to the Cordova Cleanup fund, which provides the food and supplies for this event.

For information on volunteering or donating to Cordova Cleanup Day, contact the Cordova Chamber of Commerce at 907-424-7260.
