Tour business wins Aleutian Marketplace competition

An Unalaska businesswoman has won a business plan competition sponsored by the Aleutian Pribilof Island Community Development Association and the Aleut Corp. for her recreational equipment and tour business.

Doahn Thi Tran received a check for $20,000 in start-up funds for her Unalaska-based business, Bering Breeze Co., sponsors of the 2017 Aleutian Marketplace Business Plan Competition said May 1.  Hers was one of eight competition entries.

Tran’s written business plan and comprehensive presentation before an independent judging panel addressed how the Bering Breeze Co. would establish a successful tourism business that provides healthy activities for adventure seekers.

APICDA and the Aleut Corp. have partnered with the Alaska Small Business Development Center at the University of Alaska Anchorage to provide business plan writing guidance. “Creating business plans and getting coaching and assistance from professionals is an integral part of the competition and will have a lasting economic impact on the region,” said Larry Cotter, chief executive officer of APICDA.
