Alaska minimum wage edges up to $9.84

Minimum wage in Alaska will rise from $9.80 to $9.84 in 2018, for all hours worked in a pay period, regardless of whether a worker is paid by time, piece, commission or otherwise.

That’s a total of $4 for a 40-hour work week.

All actual hours worked in a pay period multiplied by the Alaska minimum wage is the very least an employee cam be compensated by an employer, said Labor Commissioner Heidi Drygas.

Tips to not count toward the minimum wage.

A ballot initiative passed by voters raise the minimum wage of a dollar in both 2015 and 2016, and thereafter to be adjusted annually for inflation.

Alaska Statute 23.10.065 (a) requires the state’s minimum wage to be adjusted using the Consumer Price Index for urban consumers in the Anchorage metropolitan area. In 2016 the Anchorage CPI-U increased 0.4 percent, prompting the upcoming four-cent an hour raise.
