Alaska Division of Parks hosts guided First Day Hikes

ANCHORAGE — Alaska’s Division of Parks is joining other states in hosting five guided outings as part of the First Day Hikes Initiative.

America’s State Parks sponsors the initiative.

In interior Alaska, a 1-mile (1.6-kilometer) hike, ski or snowshoe event is planned for noon at the Quartz Lake State Recreation Area north of Delta Junction.

A 3-mile (5-kilometer) trip is planned for noon at Homer’s Eveline State Recreation Site.
Three events are planned for southeast Alaska.

A 1.5- to 3-mile (3-5 kilometer) loop will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Mosquito Cove Trail in Old Sitka State Historical Park.

In Ketchikan, a half-mile (.8-kilometer) hike is planned at 9:30 a.m. in the Refuge Cove State Recreation Site.

In Juneau, a 3-mile (5-kilometer) hike is planned at 10:30 a.m. on Airport Dike Trail in the Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge.
