Movie night: ‘The Shape of Water’
Hosted by the Cordova Arts & Pageants, “The Shape of Water” will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, at North Star Theatre in the Cordova Center.
2018 Cordova Health Fair
The 2018 Cordova Health Fair runs from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 21 at the Cordova High School gym. The fair will feature low cost blood tests administered by the Cordova Community Medical Center, interactive exhibits, free health screenings, circle of hope at 11 a.m., and prize drawings including two kids’ bikes. Cordova Girl Scout Troop 241 presents: ‘Pitch Perfect 3’
Cordova Girl Scout Troop 241 presents ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 at North Star Theatre in the Cordova Center. All proceeds benefit the troop’s activities.
Free Electronics Recycling
The Native Village of Eyak, Alaska Marine Lines and the city of Cordova are hosting free electronics recycling from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from April 23-30. Bring unwanted electronics to the city lot on Harbor Loop Road, next to the aluminum and cardboard recycling. Electronics will only be accepted during the day and locked during the evening. Televisions, computers, monitors, printers, digital cameras, stereos, microwaves, emptied vacuum cleaners and wall chargers are acceptable. Not accepting dishwashers, clothes washers /dryers, refrigerators, freezers, exit signs, PCB ballasts and smoke detectors. For more information, call NVE at 907-424-7731.
Online Auction for Hoffman family
A Facebook online auction has been set up for the family of Chellsie Hoffman. Chellsie, 31, was killed by a drunken driver in Valdez on Sunday, April 8. She leaves a husband and four young children. Donated items include handmade goods, dinners, gift cards and services. To donate or bid on items visit their Facebook page ‘Online Auction for Chellsie Hoffman’. The bidding will end on April 24 at midnight.
Kid’s Night Out
“Paddington 2” will be shown for free from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Friday, April 27 at Mt. Eccles Elementary School, hosted by the Cordova Coast Guard Spouse’s Association. They will be selling hot dogs, chips, drinks, popcorn and sweets at the concession table.
Cordova Cleanup Day
Cordova Cleanup Day is 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 28. Volunteers should pick up garbage bags and plastic gloves at the Cordova Cleanup table at the Cordova Center and also check the deployment map to see which areas need clean up. There will be a free picnic lunch for all volunteers at the Cordova Center at noon. Cordova Cleanup Day is organized by the Cordova Chamber of Commerce, with a committee representing the city of Cordova, Native Village of Eyak, Chugach National Forest – Cordova Ranger District, and Copper River Watershed Project. Mt. Eccles student art at Copper River Gallery
Gallery show “-ISH” featuring Mt. Eccles student artwork continues from April 6-28 at The Copper River Gallery in the Cordova Center. The Cordova Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
Moms, Pops and Tots!
This play group is open for children newborn to 4 years old and will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays (throughout the school year) at the Masonic Lodge. The group focuses on exploring developmental issues and building on each child’s strengths through large-motor skills play, small-motor skills play, pretend play and sensory play. Food pantry services
The Little Chapel is administering Salvation Army extension food pantry services. People needing assistance can pick up food on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Little Chapel. In an emergency at other times, call the Little Chapel at 907-424-3629. Native Village of Eyak administers food distribution on behalf of the Food Bank of Alaska.
