Law & Order: June 15-21

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police Department between 6-15-18 thru 6-21-18. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

JUNE 15, Friday

9:54 a.m. Caller reported two people were charged by a black bear. Caller scared it off. 10:57 a.m. Caller reported a traffic violation. Officer responded investigating the situation. 

JUNE 16, Saturday

7:34 p.m. Caller requested an officer for a civil stand by. Officer responded.

JUNE 17, Sunday

5:35 a.m. Caller requested an ambulance for her husband who was having severe back pains. Ambulance responded transporting patient to CCMC.

JUNE 18, Monday

3:09 a.m. Caller reported a bear was on her back porch making loud noises, and then broke into her chicken coop eating her chickens. Officer responded scaring off the bear. Later that evening caller reported she had shot the bear because it was trying to get back into the chicken coop. Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded to the scene. 7:36 p.m. Caller requested a civil stand by for his friend. Officer responded.

JUNE 19, Tuesday

12:53 a.m. Caller reported an individual would not leave their bar when told to. Officer responded finding the individual left before they arrived.

JUNE 20, Wednesday

2:35 p.m. Caller reported he had items stolen from his shipping container. Officer started investigating the situation.

JUNE 21, Thursday

1:36 p.m. Caller reported he had been assaulted by his sister’s boyfriend. Officer responded and investigated the incident.  

Notice 1:

On April 20, 2018, Cordova Police impounded a vehicle with the following description of license plate #GZZ556, Beige 2006 Chevy Malibu, Serial Number 1G1ZS53836F276431, at 401 Orca Avenue, Cordova, Alaska; the registered owner Gary Westmoreland died October 9, 2016, with no known next of kin.  Unless within 15 days of this notice, either: (a) the vehicle is removed and stored on a lawful manner, or (b) a person with an interest in the vehicle requests a hearing under Section 10.54.060, the city may without further notice dispose of the vehicle by sale, destruction, or other disposition authorized by law.

NOTES FROM CORDOVA DMV:

DMV HOURS: From 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday unless otherwise posted. Motorcycle testing is still available, weather permitting. DMV has moved to 602 Railroad Ave.  Payments now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations and citations.
