Taste of Cordova competitors honored at cook-off

The annual wild food cook-off, Taste of Cordova, took place during this year’s Copper River Salmon Jam on Saturday, July 14 and featured many locally sourced ingredients for mouthwatering dishes.

This year’s judges were Kate Velasco, co-owner of Fork & Spoon, now a permanent food trailer; Sena Wheeler, co-owner of Cordova’s new fish processing plant, 60° North Seafoods, and Alyssa Kleissler, organizer of Salmon Jam and owner of Current Rhythms dance studio.

Prizes were awarded to the following categories:

Best in Show – The best overall dish the judges can’t stop eating.

Vicky Hamm, Thai Basil Stir Fry

King of Fish – The best submission from the ocean.

Lance Westing, Trinidad “Taste My Hand” Smoked Herring

Fabulous Flora and Fauna – The best entry showcasing local plants and/or mushrooms.

Nick Docken, BBQ Brown Bear Bites

Alaska Brewed – The best dish that uses beer as ingredient from the spawnsor of this year’s Beer Garden: Alaska Brewing Co.

April Beedle, Jalapeno Salmon with Hot Crackers and Jalapenos Jelly
