Lady Wolverines sweep conference opener

Cordova’s Lady Wolverines had an easy time in their first conference games of the season, sweeping SuValley 46-32 and 42-26 in games here on Jan. 11-12.

In Friday’s action, Inga Arvidson had a big game for CHS, replacing senior starter Riley Butler, who did not play in the series. Arvidson, a 5-5 sophomore, poured in a game high 14 points and led Cordova in rebounding.

Veteran speedsters Edrea Navarro and Jieller Tabara each added 12.

Saturday, constant full-court pressure by Cordova held SuValley to 6 points in the first quarter, 5 in the second, and 4 in the third, as everyone played for the Lady W’s.

Navarro and Tabara led Cordova with 12 and 11 points respectively.

The wins improved Cordova’s record to 7-3 overall. They will resume play this weekend in the Cordova Tipoff.

Game 2: Cordova:  Navarro 12, Esguerra 2, Bourgeois 9, Tabara 11, Mattson 5, Sjostedt 1, Arvidson 2. SuValley: Moore 2, Pevan 1, Grenier 9, Bietsch 12, Johnston 2.

In their only JV game, played on Saturday, Jan. 12, Cordova clobbered SuValley 48-17. Alana Esquerra led Cordova with 13, Gwethalyn Jacob added 12.
