A nationwide search is underway for a new chief executive officer of the Iditarod Trail Committee, to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of longtime CEO Stan Hooley, who said he has accepted another job out-of-state.

ITC said Jan. 22 that The Foraker Group has been retained for that search and transition of leadership, thanks to a grant from the Rasmuson Foundation. As part of the initial hiring process, a cross section of Iditarod stakeholders will be invited to participate in a survey to gather information that will be used to help identify qualities needed in the new CEO.

ITC board president Mike Mills said the board is open to hearing from stakeholders o what they want to see in a new CEO.

The announcement came just 38 days in advance of the ceremonial start for the 2019 Iditarod in Anchorage on March 2.
