Following the Alaska Small Business Development Center’s group trainings and counseling in Cordova April 16-18, a new SBDC Portal Kiosk was installed at the Cordova Chamber of Commerce, at 404 First St.
The kiosk is the first in the state to be installed through the Alaska SBDC, said Cathy Renfeldt, executive director of the chamber.
The kiosk will allow local small business owners to continue utilizing, at a distance, free and confidential face-to-face business counseling services provided by SBDC experts.
The training and counseling sessions held earlier this month featured one-on-one appointments and group trainings that focused on “Growing Your Business through a Solid Business Plan & Financial Models.”
“It all began when we hosted our Cordova Economic Summit last April,” Renfeldt said.
At that meeting, the community and business members indicated lack of small business development and support as one of the biggest hurdles for growth for their business in Cordova.
In response, the Cordova Chamber reached out to the Alaska SBDC, which recently added a Rural Development Coordinator position dedicated to providing business training and counseling to small business owners in communities around the state without SBDC offices.
Alaska SBDC Director of Rural Program Development Ian Grant traveled to Cordova to lead the two-day workshop and install the kiosk.
