Recycling of commercial fishing nets and plastics were in full swing in Cordova in May, thanks to the efforts of the Copper River Watershed Project. About 30 people turned out for the net recycling event on May 18 sponsored by CRWP and the Alaska Brewing Co., which garnered eight drift gillnets for recycling.

Then on May 29 CRWP and the AC Value Center teamed up to recycle plastics, including #1 PETE and #2 HDPE plastic bottles at the A/C loading dock, which is also the Native Village of Eyak parking lot.

Recycling efforts allow for the fishing nets and plastics to be repurposed into new products, and also keeps all of this material out of the city’s landfill.
