Coast Guard medevacs cruise ship passenger

A cruise ship passenger suffering with cardiac issues aboard a cruise ship in the vicinity of Bligh Island, near Prince William Sound, was evacuated on Tuesday, June 11, by the U.S. Coast Guard, and taken to Valdez for transport to higher medical care.

The Coast Guard responded after receiving a report from the Island Princess that the 61-year-old woman was in distress. She was taken via a Coast Guard Station Valdez 45-foot response boat-medium crew to the Valdez pier, where her condition was reported as stable.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Erik Patterson, a Sector Anchorage command duty officer, said their station’s location to the cruise ship allowed them to get to the scene and assist quickly, to save the woman’s life “when timing is everything.”

Weather on scene was 12 mile an hour winds, with two foot seas and rainy.
