Proposals sought to promote wild Alaska Pollock

Proposals are being sought through Oct. 1 for a new round of funding for innovative marketing of wild Alaska Pollock via the Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers’ North American Partnership Program.

In this third round of funding, said Craig Morris, chief executive officer of GAPP, the association is particularly interested in projects that showcase wild Alaska Pollock surimi or roe in the North American Market, although fillet-based proposals are also welcome.

Morris said that GAPP is looking for companies with a passion for wild Alaska Pollock who need resources to put their Pollock products in front of new customers, and companies with a collaborative spirit looking to share what they have learned to build demand and awareness of Alaska Pollock products.

The partnership program was conceived by the GAPP board of directors to recognize and provide support for companies looking to bring new, innovative products to market or to introduce the fish to food influencers and decision-makers at forums where Pollock has not had previous visibility.

GAPP set aside $3 million toward the partnership program for 2019-2020, of which some $1.7 million remains for this third round. Each partner, in turn, must invest an amount equal or greater than their grant, for their new product forms or channels to reach new consumers.

All applicants will be notified on the outcome of their application no later than Dec. 15.
