Alaska Marine Highway System officials say that with the state’s operating budget in place they are working to finalize vessel routes and schedules for the 2019-2020 winter schedule, so booking for winter travel should be available for the third week of September.

The announcement on Monday, Aug. 19, came with no firm date for when bookings would begin, plus a warning that the winter schedule is fiscally constrained by $43 million in budget cuts. Officials said they would provide the best possible service to communities while maintaining regulatory and safety standards for vessels.

The 31 percent budget reduction of previous fiscal years will limit adjustments that can be made to the schedule, they said.
