Chenega awarded energy efficiency grant

The Native Village of Chenega is one of 47 rural communities in Alaska to be funded via a new Village Energy Efficiency Program initiative supported with a $1 million grant from Wells Fargo.

The $3,785 grant for the $18,785 project was the only one approved for the Copper River/Chugach energy region, according to information made available by the Alaska Energy Authority, a public corporation of the state of Alaska based in Anchorage.

As a result of this solicitation and its competitive application program, the 47 communities are to receive $1.1 million in Wells Fargo and AEA funding, with local match at approximately $397,000. Eligible communities under this program are those with a population of 8,000 or less.

The funding will collectively contribute to projects in these communities valued at $1.5 million.
