Law & Order: Sept. 4-10

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police department between Sept. 4-10. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Friday, Sept. 4
3:35 p.m. Caller reported a large fuel spill. A Cordova Fire Department Officer responded to the spill. 7:23 p.m. Caller requested an ambulance. The ambulance responded and transported the patient to the hospital.

Saturday, Sept. 5
9:48 p.m. Caller reported a vehicle was swerving across the double yellow lines. An officer responded but was unable to locate the vehicle. 12:25 p.m. Caller reported a black truck had struck another vehicle and then fled the scene. A second call came in stating that the vehicle had passed the scene of the accident, interacting with the victim, and then fled the scene a second time. An officer pulled over the suspect vehicle and arrested Sidor Vasil, age 25, of Fosston, Minn., for DUI, Escape, and No Vehicle Insurance.

Sunday, Sept. 6
1:00 p.m. Caller reported hearing screaming and yelling at their neighbor’s house. An officer responded and found a child acting out.

Monday, Sept. 7

Thursday, Sept. 10
9:34 p.m. An officer conducted a traffic stop on the Copper River Highway. The driver, Soren Kokborg, age 18, of Cordova, Alaska, was found to be intoxicated and was placed under arrest for DUI, Minor Operating After Consuming, and Minor Consuming Alcohol. His minor passenger was also cited for Minor Consuming Alcohol. Both were released to the custody of their parents.

DMV hours
From 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday unless otherwise posted. DMV is located at 602 Railroad Ave. Payments are now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations and citations.
