The newly established nonprofit Alaska Mariculture Alliance is inviting new members to apply. The Alliance is intended to be the successor to the Alaska Mariculture Task Force.

The stated mission of the AMA is to “develop and support a robust and sustainable mariculture industry, producing shellfish and aquatic plants for the long-term benefit of Alaska’s economy, environment and communities,” said Heather McCarty, task force chair.

The task force, formed in 2016 by Gov. Bill Walker, and reauthorized in 2018 with support from Gov. Mike Dunleavy, is scheduled to sunset on June 30.

The administrative role for the task force was facilitated by the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation, which plans to continue doing so for the AMA.

Their bylaws and articles of incorporations are on file with the state, and are online at

cdv.tiny.us/ama. Applications for founding membership should be returned by June 23, organizers said. The task force plans to meet on June 25 to accept these applications.
