Peter Pan Seafoods has donated 10,000 pounds of sockeye salmon to several Dillingham entities, including Dillingham regional schools for a variety of their programs, said Jon Hickman, vice president of operations for the Alaska seafood firm.

“We wanted to do our part for Alaskans who need it most, so we arranged, organized and custom processed 10,000 pounds of sockeye salmon from our fleet into approximately 13,333 meals, which were given to the Dillingham regional schools for a variety of their programs, such as Head State,” Hickman said on Friday, Aug. 13.

Peter Pan also donated 500 pounds of fish to the Bristol Bay Food Bank for their free community canning classes and another more than 1,300 meals to Grandma’s House, an assisted living facility, and the senior center.

“We feel very fortunate to be able to give back to the community of Dillingham ad look forward to future opportunities to extend our support across the state,” he said.

Peter Pan was not among the major Bristol Bay processors at Naknek who collaborated in late July to donate 25,000 pounds of king salmon to villages along the Yukon River for their winter food supply.  The company has seasonal processing facilities at Dillingham, Port Moller and Valdez and a year-round facility at King Cove.

“This season our limited kings were sold as fast as we could get them unloaded at the dock, meaning that unfortunately we didn’t have any supply to contribute specifically to the Yukon River donation,” Hickman said.
