Law & Order: Oct. 4-17

The following is a summary of incidents that occurred or were reported to the Cordova Police Department Oct 4-17. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Monday, Oct. 4

12:00 a.m. Dispatch received a bear complaint on Eighth Street.

2:27 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

12:45 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

3:34 p.m. Dispatch received a call from a resident inquiring if the Department accepts donated bicycles for future auction. We do, though one may alternatively wish to donate to Cordova Gear.

Tuesday, Oct. 5

9:56 a.m. The Emergency Medical Services team and the Fire Marshal responded to a 911 call on Fifth Street. The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

10:10 a.m. A resident notified Dispatch of a controlled burn.

12:35 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

2:49 p.m. An Officer responded to a bear complaint on Lake Avenue.

6:29 p.m. The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a medevac transport call. The patient was transported from Cordova Community Medical Center to the airport.

Wednesday, Oct. 6

9:18 a.m. An Officer responded to a commercial burglar alarm. The Officer reported to Dispatch a mechanical company was on site working on the property. The Contractor will call the owner regarding the alarm.

2:41 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

4:03 p.m. An Officer reported location to Dispatch as public assistance to a motorist in the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport parking lot.

8:10 p.m. The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a 911 call at Sunset View Apartments. The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

10:55 p.m. Two Officers conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

11:38 p.m. Two Officers conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Thursday, Oct. 7

1:36 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of Rottweilers running loose on the Copper River Highway. [Dogs 6, Officer 2, if the reader is keeping score.]

2:05 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

4:59 p.m. 4:59 p.m. A frequent caller and previous patron of our overnight accommodations contacted Dispatch asking, “Do you miss me?”

6:52 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

8:10 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

8:56 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

9:58 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:26 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Friday, Oct. 8

1:49 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

2:51 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the United States Postal Service building.

8:33 a.m. The Fire Marshal and the Water Department responded to a report of an oil spill in progress around Adams Avenue and First Street. The responsible party was contacted and cleaned up the spill.

12:55 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

3:23 p.m. The Emergency Medical Services team and the Volunteer Fire Department responded to a 911 call at Sunset View Apartments. The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

6:32 p.m. Elton Brown, age 63, of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested on a bench warrant.

9:07 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:29 p.m. An Officer issued a trespass on an individual, per request of business owner.

11:43 p.m. An Officer responded to a bear complaint on Council Avenue.

Saturday, Oct. 9

12:14 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

12:17 a.m. Dispatch received a report of a boat taking on water outside of Main Bay. The victim was able to escape. An Alaska State Trooper responded and determined the individual was safe and taking shelter at the Main Bay Hatchery.

12:35 p.m. An individual contacted Dispatch asking when the caller’s Driver’s License will be reinstated after revocation. Dispatch advised caller to contact the Division of Motor Vehicles.

2:34 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

5:45 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist on Seafood Lane.

5:57 p.m. An Officer responded to a bear complaint on Breakwater Avenue.

10:43 p.m. An Officer reported location to Dispatch as Mile 7 Copper River Highway, cleaning up glass and debris.

11:00 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

11:20 p.m. An Officer conducted a traffic stop at Mile 4 Copper River Highway.

11:41 p.m. A second Officer and a City Shop employee responded. The driver’s vehicle was impounded.

Sunday, Oct. 10

12:11 a.m. Justin Trosper, age 48, of Shelton, Washington, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

1:46 a.m. An Officer responded to a report of a noise complaint on Chase Avenue.

2:16 a.m. Dispatch received a report of a bear near the Bob Korn Memorial Swimming Pool.

2:48 a.m. Camaron Gillespie, age 22, of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested on charges of Assault 4, Criminal Mischief, and Disorderly Conduct.

5:21 a.m. An Officer responded to a bear complaint on Center Drive.

Monday, Oct. 11

12:03 a.m.  An Officer responded to a report of two men fighting in the street on Browning Avenue. 

3:30 a.m.  Dispatch received a report of two people walking down the middle of Second Street screaming at each other.

8:58 a.m.  A citizen came to the station to be fingerprinted.

12:35 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

4:43 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of an alleged phone scam.

7:45 p.m.  An Officer and an Alaska Wildlife Trooper responded to a 911 report of a moose hit by a truck on Mile 5–6.5.  There were no injuries to the driver or passengers.

10:00 p.m.  Dispatch received a 911 bear complaint.  The caller reported being charged by a bear on Observation and Davis Avenues.  The individual shot and killed the bear.

10:02 p.m.  Dispatch received a report of gunshot fire on Observation.  Dispatch contacted an Alaska Wildlife Trooper.

Tuesday, Oct. 12

12:38 a.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

9:03 a.m.  Dispatch received a bear complaint by the Powder House Bar and Grill.

12:59 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

11:21 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

Wednesday, Oct. 13

12:50 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

7:19 p.m.  Two Officers served papers. 

8:06 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Thursday, Oct. 14

1:09 a.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

1:11 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

1:38 p.m.  The Fire Marshal and the Volunteer Fire Department responded to a commercial alarm for Trident Seafoods.  The responsible party was contacted.  This was a false alarm.

3:35 p.m.  The Emergency Medical Services team responded to a 911 call on Fifth Street.  The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

7:19 p.m.  An Officer responded to a commercial burglar alarm at First National Bank Alaska. This was a false alarm.

11:13 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

11:23 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Friday, Oct. 15

12:16 a.m.  An Officer responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Browning Avenue and First Street.

3:43 a.m.  An Officer, the Emergency Medical Services team, and a member of the Volunteer Fire Department responded to a 911 call on Fifth Street.  The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

1:04 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

4:36 p.m.  An Officer reported location to Dispatch as Railroad Avenue and First Street “clearing debris from the road.” 

7:09 p.m.  A caller reported receiving a text reporting a possible signal fire. 

10:07 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:18 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:23 p.m.  An Officer responded to a bear complaint off Lake Avenue.

10:43 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

11:17 p.m.  An Officer responded to a bear complaint by the Coast Guard housing. 

Saturday, Oct. 16

12:40 a.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

8:00 p.m.  An Officer reported location to Dispatch as Mile 8.  One of the Copper River Highway delineation markers was down.  The Officer righted the fallen marker.

8:38 p.m.  An Officer issued a warning to a motorist.

9:15 p.m.  An Officer reported location to Dispatch as Seventh Street by the Coast Guard housing trying to catch a dog.

9:20 The Officer reported location as “En route to the pound.” [Dogs 6, Officer 3] 

9:52 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:31 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Sunday, Oct. 17

2:01 a.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

3:37 a.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the United States Postal Service building.

9:38 a.m.  An individual contacted Dispatch regarding the dog in the pound. 

11:20 a.m.  An Officer responded to a welfare check request on Whitshed Road.

12:12 p.m.  An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

4:34 p.m.  An Officer issued a civil non-expiring trespass on an individual, per request of property owner.

9:26 p.m.  An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.
