Obituary: Ronald (Ron) Dunn

July 9, 1944 - June 25, 2021

Ronald (Ron) Dunn passed away peacefully on June 25, 2021, in Cordova after a lengthy battle with illnesses caused by Agent Orange, which he encountered during his service time in Vietnam.

He was born in Italy, Texas on July 9, 1944, and at age nine, he moved to Rhome, Texas where he graduated from Northwest High School. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington.

Ron met Delaine Moore at church in Rhome in 1961, and they married January 22, 1965. They had their daughter, Micki Gayle Dunn, on January 6, 1972. He was also blessed with his granddaughter, Giannaleah Dunn Gullett on January 29, 2010.

Ron was a dedicated Christian who always put Christ first in his life. He was a Sunday School teacher for Junior High boys, as well as adult classes. He also served many years as a Deacon in the church. His favorite current song was “Jealous of the Angels” which he listened to weekly over the past year.

He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam and Germany. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant before he returned home in 1969.

His career was as an Information Technology Specialist. He worked for the Reynolds & Reynolds Company for 20 years and then for John Elway AutoNation until his massive heart attack in 2002.

Ron was an avid gun collector and hunter, but he really loved his motorcycles (ALL 25 of them over 36 years). His cooking skills were well-loved by his church family, and his “dry” sense of humor was beyond hilarious.

In addition to his parents, Leonard Dunn of Italy, Texas, and Giulia Green of Arlington, Texas he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Randall Dunn of Blue Mound, and his sister, JoAnne Underwood of Grand Prairie, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Delaine (Moore) Dunn, his daughter Micki Gayle Dunn, and his granddaughter Giannaleah Dunn Gullett, all of Cordova.

In addition, he is survived by his niece, Debbie Taczek and her husband Pat, their children Tiffany Taczek and Tony Taczek (his wife Angie and their children David, Aedyn, and Trace) of Tatum, Texas, and his niece Stephanie (Dunn) Tipton (her husband Dane and their sons Colin and Nolan) of Greeley, Colorado, as well as nephews Jeff Routt, (his son Jeremy), Eric Routt, and Jon Routt (his wife, Shannon, and their daughter, Madeline) of Fort Worth, Texas. Ron is also survived by his sister-in-law, Darlene Sadler and her children; Steve Sadler (his wife Mandy); Craig Sadler (his daughter Carlie and granddaughter Letti); and Darla Payrot (her daughter Bridget and grandson Killian) of the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area, and Darla’s son Justin (his wife Jaki, and their daughter Zella) of Jacksonville, Florida.

Ron’s Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Cordova Community Baptist Church.  Everyone is invited to attend, and there will be a meal immediately following the memorial.
