Legislators in the Alaska House of Representatives have recognized the blue economy efforts of the Alaska Ocean Cluster in House Concurrent Resolution 2 and sent the document to the Alaska Senate for consideration.

“Our state is poised to become the national leader in the mariculture economy and it’s due to the tireless efforts of organizations like the Alaska Ocean Cluster that push us forward,” said Speaker of the House Louise Stutes, R-Kodiak.

HCR 2 salutes the Anchorage-based non-profit program sponsored by Bering Sea Fishermen’s Association for its “mission, efforts and vision for a vibrant coastal economy in the state.”

“The Ocean Cluster is cultivating the innovation and entrepreneurship that will make Alaska competitive in a global economy and I’m thrilled the Legislature recognizes the importance of its work,” said Rep. Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, D-Sitka.

Rep. Dan Ortiz, I-Southern Southeast, also offered his support citing the endless opportunities for the blue economy to take root in Alaska’s vast and diverse coastlines and waterways.

The Alaska Ocean Cluster works with startups to advance technologies that benefit Alaska’s marine industries, communities and ecosystems.
