Current Rhythms Dance Studio celebrated their 25th anniversary to two full houses of their original performance of Rock Ballet, featuring dancers ages 4 to 65 on Saturday, March 26, at the North Star Theater. Attendees and all 80 performers got to enjoy a free piece of Diane Ujioka cake at the end of the performances.
My sister, Marita Kleissler, and I were overjoyed at being able to host our first full studio performance in two years, which was also livestreamed across the United States, making many family members who live afar be able to enjoy seeing their favorite dancers.
Performers danced to songs by The Beatles, Prince, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and more. Pieces were everything from ninjas blasting off a trampoline and vaulting over benches to sweet and graceful “Tiny Dancers” performing lifts and drags impressive for first graders.
The studio bid farewell to two of its North Star Company members who are with the Coast Guard and moving on to other communities, but also welcomed back alumni that dated as far back as when the studio began classes 25 years ago in the old Mt. Eccles cafeteria. Many audience members commented on how good it felt to come together and get to experience something “normal” once again.
Thank you to everyone who came out and donated so generously to our Dance Scholarship & Activity Fund. Our dessert auction was a great success! Many happy dancers.
The studio’s next performances feature Theater Arts students in “Snow White and Red Rose” by Emma Selle at the end of April and Order Up! by Kamron Klitgaard in May. The studio is also gearing up for its summer camps for all ages. Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter to get all the latest information. There will also be new classes beginning in April.
