Updates from the Cordova Police Department – 1-16-23 – 1-22-23

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police Department between 01-16-2023 through 01-22-2023. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. 

JANUARY 16, MONDAY:

  • Nothing to Report.

JANUARY 17, TUESDAY:

  • At 1:43 a.m. an officer conducted a security check of the 13-mile airport.
  • At 2:11 a.m. an officer conducted a security check of the AMHS Ferry Terminal.
  • At 1:39 p.m. a caller reported a vehicle upside down in Eyak Lake, no occupants inside. An officer located the driver, and an ambulance transported them to the hospital.
  • At 2:13 p.m. a caller reported having a disagreement with their significant other, an officer responded and de-escalated the situation.

JANUARY 18, WEDNESDAY:

  • At 11:59 a.m. a caller requested a welfare check on an individual he had not heard from in 2 days. An officer responded and found the individual to be okay.
  • At 12:41 p.m. a caller reported finding drug paraphernalia. An officer responded and took possession of the paraphernalia, an investigation is ongoing.
  • At 3:10 p.m. a caller requested an ambulance for a male who had fallen and hit his head on ice. The ambulance responded and transported the patient to the hospital.
  • At 4:27 p.m. a caller requested a trespass against a vehicle and the vehicle owner. An officer has spoken to both parties involved. 
  • At 5:56 p.m. A caller reported hitting a dog with his vehicle. An officer responded, photographed the scene, and spoke with both involved parties.
  • At 11:53 p.m. an officer conducted a security check of the 13-mile airport.

JANUARY 19, THURSDAY: 

  • At 8:56 a.m. an officer conducted a security check of the high school.
  • At 9:07 a.m. an officer was approached with a welfare check request on an individual who had not shown up for work that morning. The officer responded and saw the individual driving to work.
  • At 12:29 p.m. a CVFD Fire Officer responded to Eyak Lake after getting a report of oil leaking out of a wrecked vehicle, measures to contain and clean the spill were taken.
  • At 2:49 p.m. a caller reported a vehicle went off the road on 5th street. An officer and the fire department responded.
  • At 5:57 p.m. a caller reported Orca Road was in a dangerous condition. An officer responded to assess the road condition and safety.
  • At 10:13 p.m. a caller reported large debris in the roadway on Highland Drive. An officer responded and found the debris was out of the roadway and in the ditch.

JANUARY 20, FRIDAY:

  • At 12:04 a.m. an officer conducted a security check of the AMHS Ferry terminal.
  • At 8:40 a.m. an officer conducted a security check of the Elementary school.
  • At 8:57 a.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop and gave the driver a verbal warning for no headlights.
  • At 9:03 a.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop and gave the driver a warning for no proof of insurance and expired registration.
  • At 9:10 a.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop and gave the driver a citation for failure to stop at a stop sign and a warning for failure to stop at the direction of a police officer.
  • At 9:19 a.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop at the High school.
  • At 12:39 p.m. an officer provided security for flight 61 at the 13-mile airport.
  • At 11:41 p.m. an officer conducted a security check of the AMHS Ferry terminal.

JANUARY 21, SATURDAY:

  • At 12:03 a.m. an officer conducted a security check of the 13-mile airport.
  • At 10:25 a.m. an officer located a lost dog. The dog was reunited with its owners.
  • At 8:25 p.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop and gave the driver a warning for failure to stop at a stop sign.
  • At 8:58 p.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop and had the driver’s vehicle impounded for not being insured.
  • At 11:48 p.m. an officer conducted a security check of the 13-mile airport.

JANUARY 22, SUNDAY:  

  • At 4:57 a.m. a caller reported yelling and screaming going on at the neighbors. An officer responded and separated the parties.
  • An officer conducted a traffic stop and a warning was issued for no taillights.
  • An officer conducted a traffic stop and a warning was issued for not having lights turned on.

JANUARY 23, MONDAY:

  • At 4:38 a.m. an officer conducted a security check at the 13-mile airport.
  • At 10:49 a.m. a caller reported a threatening message being sent to him. A report was started.
  • AT 5:28 p.m. an officer responded to 5.5-mile CRH for traffic control around a rockslide.
  • At 6:49 p.m. a caller requested a welfare check on an elderly person that they had not been able to reach in several days. The person was contacted, and everything was fine.

JANUARY 24, TUESDAY:

  • At 03:27 a.m. an officer conducted a security check at the 13-mile airport.

JANUARY 25, WEDNESDAY:

  • At 12:06 a.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested Andrew Johnson, age 35, for driving without a valid license.
  • At 7:10 p.m. an officer responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress. The officer spoke with the suspect and determined that they had permission to be at the residence.

JANUARY 26, THURSDAY:

  • At 02:15 a.m. an officer conducted a security check at the 13-mile airport.
  • At 11:37 a.m. an officer responded to a call about a trespasser in a residence, the suspect was gone when the officer arrived.
  • At 1:13 p.m. a caller reported some firearms were missing, an investigation is in progress.
  • At 8:41 p.m. a caller reported the location of a wanted individual, an officer responded and arrested Kasey Wornek, age 34, on out of state warrants.

JANUARY 27, FRIDAY:

  • At 12:45 a.m. an officer responded to a report of suspicious individuals on Chase Avenue, an officer responded and found the individuals had left the area.
  • At 1:47 a.m. an officer conducted a security check at the 13-mile airport.
  • At 7:15 a.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop on Breakwater Ave; the driver was issued a citation for driving with no proof of insurance.
  • At 11:09 a.m. An officer and the ambulance responded to a report of a deceased individual.
  • At 10:13 p.m. an officer responded to reports of a man attempting to fight patrons at the Alaskan Bar. Brian Scram, age 57, was arrested for Assault 4 and disorderly conduct.

JANUARY 28, SATURDAY: 

  • At 2:25 a.m. an officer conducted a security check at the 13-mile airport.
  • At 3:03 p.m. a caller requested EMS for an adult female having an asthma attack, the ambulance responded and the patient was taken to the hospital.
  • At 6:42 p.m. a caller reported an individual violating conditions of release, an officer spoke with the caller and an investigation is ongoing.
  • At 9:21 p.m. an officer conducted a security check of the AMHS ferry terminal.
  • At 11:07 p.m. an officer conducted a security check at the 13-mile airport.

JANUARY 29, SUNDAY: 

  • At 8:47 a.m. an officer completed a patrol of town.
  • At 2:00 p.m. an officer provided security at the 13-mile airport.
  • At 5:19 p.m. an officer received a tip about criminal activity. An investigation is ongoing.

DMV HOURS:  Monday-Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise posted. DMV has moved to 602 Railroad Ave. Payments now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations, citations.
