Event: June 8-9. Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault FY2023 4th Quarter Council Meeting. This meeting is CDVSA’s annual Rural Outreach Meeting. The Council Meeting will be held at the Prince William Sound Science Center in Cordova beginning at 9:00 a.m. on June 8 and ending at 11:30 a.m. June 9.  The meeting will also be available via Microsoft Teams for public members who may wish to listen in and/or make public comments during the public comment period on June 8 from 11:00-11:30 a.m. Visit https://aws.state.ak.us/OnlinePublicNotices/Notices/View.aspx?id=211048 for Microsoft Teams access information.

Event: June 10. Prince William Sound Science Center open house, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. with light refreshments provided.

Event: June 12-16. Theater Arts Drama Camp. Campers will play theater games and learn all aspects of theater production in the process. Character development will be stressed. Improvisational games will teach students how to develop a character role to later use in a short scene.

Event: June 12, June 21 and July 12. Cultural Sensitivity Training for Businesses and Local Indigenous History. The Ilanka Cultural Center and the Cordova Chamber of Commerce are partnering to offer cultural training to businesses in Cordova. Join Teal Hansen, the Cultural Coordinator at the Native Village of Eyak, for expeditious cultural sensitivity training and a summarization of local indigenous history in a 1-hour class. $12 a person, visit or call ICC during open hours to pay prior class. Event: June 14-15. Nature Arts Grades 2 to 4. This new, shortened program is designed to be an introductory experience to our camps. Maybe your camper is interested in camp but not ready to commit to the full week – that’s okay. Come join us for two days of fun and exciting adventures! This is a day camp and we will be spending our time exploring, playing, and learning throughout the Copper River Delta. Camp begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. both days. Drop-off and pick-up at PWSSC. Transportation, food, and all content-related materials are included with registration.

Event: June 17. Cordova Saturday Market. At the Masonic building, starts at noon.

Event: June 19-23. Jr Theater Arts. Campers will play games that lead to building self-confidence, team building, stage presence, voice projection, and body language. Campers will act out short skits of choice.

Event: June 20-23. Cordova Family Resource Center Summer Camp. Have fun with the Cordova Family Resource Center. Go on field trips, arts and crafts, hiking, and fishing! Event: June 28-July 3. Girls on the Run Summer Camp. Girls in 3rd – 6th grade spend four days building friendships, exploring their creativity and playing fun games that keep them moving. Girls build confidence and unleash creativity in a safe and inclusive environment. Offered by the Cordova Family Resource Center. 9 a.m. to noon. Event: July 10-14 Cordova 4H Music Camp. Sign up at https://www.cordovamusiccamp.org. There is Little Strummers, a half day program for 6-8 years; Bluegrass Camp for 9-18 years; and Adult Music Camp. There are out-of-town and local rates, scholarships—and a grant to pay full tuition for any Chugach region tribal member.

Event: August 4. Exhibit scheduled to open at the Copper River Gallery in the Cordova Center. The exhibit will show a selection of works from those artists & writers who have contributed to the quarterly literary and arts publication “The Catch” throughout its course. They may elect to submit pieces that have been published in previous issues of “The Catch,” or any other pieces that they’d like to share. The event is a celebration of the arts in our community, and an opportunity to extend gratitude to our publication’s contributing artists. There will be live poetry and light snacks at the gallery opening. Submissions for this exhibit are due July 29 at 5 p.m.
