Chugach Alaska Corporation is proud to share this photo of our ancestor Chief Makarka ‘Makari’ Chimovitski, whose stories were captured in the Chugach Legends publication. Makari became the principal historian and record keeper for his people in Prince William Sound. After a flu epidemic in the early 1900s, Makari adopted 10 orphaned children from Nuchek and raised them at a new village at Makarka Point. Photo courtesy of the Chugach Alaska Corporation
