Virtual meeting on bycatch for Sept. 5

A virtual meeting on the incidental commercial catch of fish species not targeted has been scheduled by the Alaska Bycatch Advisory Council to be held starting at 9 a.m. on Sept. 5.

Agenda items and information on how to join the webinar may be found at https://aws.state.ak.us/OnlinePublicNotices/Notices/View.aspx?id=212017.

The advisory panel advised that Commissioner of Fish and Game Doug Vincent-Lang and Deputy Commissioner Rachel Baker plan to be in Kodiak Sept. 19 and Sept. 20, and that a town hall on bycatch is scheduled to begin there at 6:30 p.m. at the Koniag facility on Near Island.

Updates on preliminary information from the Gulf of Alaska Tanner crab survey will be provided by Alaska Department of Fish and Game staff, along with a report on bycatch-related issues being addressed by the North Pacific Fishery Management Council.

If groups or individuals wish to request a meeting with Commissioner Vincent-Lang or Deputy Commissioner Baker while they are in town, they can communicate directly with Kari Winkel in the commissioner’s office at kari.winkel@alaska.gov or she can be reached at 907-465-6141.
