Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) officials have completed its final winter ferry schedule and are open for bookings for the winter months.

Transportation and Public Facilities Commissioner Ryan Anderson said the agency appreciated all the feedback, including important dates for various communities, and had allocated its resources where they can be most effective in meeting community needs.

Service has been added to accommodate coastal communities’ special events to the greatest extent practicable, and the department will also contract supplemental service if needed to cover service disruptions, he said.

Due to the current shortage of vessel crews, AMHS can only accept reservations for the ferry Kennicott through February of 2024. That limitation is to stay in place until an adequate number of licensed crew are available to facilitate the March 2024 planned vessel schedule.
