P-cod fishery closed to some sectors in Central GOA

Federal fisheries officials have temporarily halted fishing for Pacific cod by catcher vessels less than 50 feet in length using hook and line gear in the Central Gulf of Alaska.

The decision of the National Marine Fisheries Service was posted in the Federal Register on March 5.

NMFS said the action was necessary to prevent exceeding the A season allowance of the 2018 Pacific cod total allowable catch apportioned to catcher vessels less than 50 feet using hook and line gear.
