Tonkovich leaving Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute

Alexa Tonkovich has tendered her resignation as executive director of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, to pursue graduate studies in international business, ASMI announced on Nov. 9.

Tonkovich said that after nine years with ASMI, the timing felt right to further her education and prepare for wherever her career may lead next. She will stay on through mid-December to assist the board with recruitment for her replacement and provide for a period of transition.

ASMI board chairman Jack Schultheis, general manager of Kwik’Pak Fisheries, said the ASMI board accepted Tonkovich’s resignation “with a heavy heart.

“Her dedication to Alaska and the Alaska seafood industry is unparalleled,” Schultheis said. “While she will be missed, we also support her decision and wish her the very best in what is sure to be a very bright future.”

Tonkovich, the former international director of ASMI, has been the executive director of ASMI since 2015.

The ASMI board will meet Nov. 19 to discuss appointing an interim executive director and drafting notice to recruit a new executive director. Meeting details and additional information regarding the position recruitment may be posted online at www.alaskaseafood.org.
