While the recently completed Borealis Conference volleyball tournament here was a huge success, the Regional Wrestling tournament scheduled for Dec. 6-8 in Cordova has fallen victim to ferry schedule changes.
“With no ferry available, we just couldn’t get teams to come here, due to the high costs of flying in”, said Cordova High Activities Director Kayti Ammerman. “The tournament has been relocated to Redington High in the MatSu Valley, and we will try to work with the ferry schedule to host it here next year.”
Meanwhile, the field for this year’s Cordova Tipoff basketball tournament has been filled. The three day round-robin tournament, on Jan. 17-19 will feature Metlakatla, Point Hope, and the Palmer JV, along with the host Cordova Wolverines.
While Point Hope and Palmer have been here before, this will be the first visit to Tipoff for the powerful Chief and Miss Chiefs from southeastern Alaska.
Cordova will also host the Regional 2A basketball tournament on March 7-9, 2019. Girls and boys teams from Glennallen, Nenana, Tok, SuValley, and Effie Kokrine will vie with Cordova in three days of double-elimination action, with berths at State 2A at stake.
