Homer’s Pratt Museum has completed its renovation and reopened with “Entangled,” a special exhibit that brings together artistic whimsy and the study of natural history of Kachemak Bay.
Museum curator Savanna Bradley said the exhibit allows the museum to share some of its favorite things from the Pratt’s permanent collections that museumgoers may never have seen before and will hopefully inspire everyone to share or contemplate their own collection stories. The Pratt is also offering virtual and in-person summer programming around the theme of collecting, including First Friday programs, participatory Zoom events and a radio series.
Walking museum events on Aug. 22 and Sept. 19 are outdoor trail activities being conducted in partnership with the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies.
Windowsill Stories, on Zoom, on Aug. 13 and Sept. 10, will be interactive conversations allowing participants to talk about natural history and ecosystem collections.
The museum has also planned two First Friday events, “Postcards From Unprecedented Times,” a night of letter writing and craft to create postcards, on Aug. 7, plus reading and conversation with Marilyn Sigman and Nancy Lord on Sept. 4
“We are excited to reopen our doors to the community with this exhibit, and we are so grateful for the support and patience of our members, friends, and guests,” said Jennifer Gibbins, executive director of the Pratt Museum, and former editor and publisher of The Cordova Times. “We hope to inspire visitors of all ages to continue to be curious about the natural world and to enjoy learning, sharing stories, and connecting with others,” Gibbons said.
