The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police department between Aug. 21-27. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Friday, Aug. 21
11:04 a.m. Caller reported a motorcycle crash that had occurred on the Copper River Highway. An officer and the Fire Department responded to the scene. Anne Malazo was cited for failing to yield while turning left and operating without a valid driver’s license. 4:15 p.m. A concerned citizen contacted the police department because they had not heard from their daughter, who was fishing on a vessel out of Cordova, for several weeks. An officer worked with the Alaska State Troopers to locate the individual’s daughter and determined that she was safe.
Saturday, Aug. 22
10:05 p.m. Multiple callers reported loud music coming from Seafood Lane. An officer located the source of the music and asked the individual to turn it down.
Sunday, Aug. 23
12:03 p.m. Caller requested an ambulance. The ambulance responded and rendered aid to the patient. 9:03 p.m. Caller reported that their son had been assaulted. An officer responded and spoke to the suspect and the victim. It was determined that no injuries were present and that the individuals only had a verbal dispute but had not laid hands on each other.
Monday, Aug. 24
Nothing to report.
Tuesday, Aug. 25
11:02 a.m. Caller reported a male walking in and out of traffic. An officer responded but was unable to locate anybody with the description that was given. 7:04 p.m. Caller reported a man lying on the side of Whitshed Road. An officer responded to the location and checked up on the individual. The officer on scene determined that the individual was safe.
Wednesday, Aug. 26
12:40 a.m. Caller reported loud noises on Second Street. An officer responded but was unable to locate any noise. 1:29 a.m. Caller reported a red pickup parked dangerously close to their front door. An officer responded and spoke with all parties involved. It was determined to have been an accident and no criminal element was involved.
Thursday, Aug. 27
1:33 a.m. Caller reported their vehicle had its mirrors and windows broken. An officer responded and the incident is under investigation.
DMV hours
From 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday unless otherwise posted. DMV is located at 602 Railroad Ave. Payments are now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations and citations.
