High School Graduation
Cordova Jr./Sr. High School’s 2021 graduation ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15 at the school gym. The event will be livestreamed on the school district’s YouTube channel.

Recovery Sunday Service
Find strength to be free from addictions and learn how to support those in recovery by attending a Recovery Sunday Service starting at 10:30 a.m. on May 16, both in person (with masks) at St. George’s Episcopal Church or remotely on Zoom. Bike Giveaway
Cordova Gear is hosting a bike giveaway. Stop by their shop during business hours at 104 W. Davis Ave. to fill out an entry form now through Monday, May 17. The winner will be announced Saturday, May 22.

Cordova Mini 4-H Music Camp
A free Cordova 4H Mini-Music Camp with lessons in band, art, and science will take place July 19-23. Local campers, ages 6-8, will meet from 10 a.m.-noon; ages 9-18 from 2-4 p.m.; and adult classes will be held in the evenings. Camp will take place outdoors at Mt. Eyak Ski Area with COVID-19 protocols in effect. Registration opens at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 20 at www.cordovamusiccamp.org with an occupancy limit of 30 younger kids and 30 older kids on a first come, first served basis. Cordova Gardeners Start Swap
The Cordova Greenhouse Initiative is hosting a spring seed swap from 6-8 p.m. on May 28 at the Red Dragon. Visit cdv.tiny.us/garden for more info and gardening tips.

Help Wanted
Help paint and clean-up Cordova’s Public Safety Building at starting at 10 a.m. on May 29. Sign up at cdv.tiny.us/paint to donate time, resources or funds towards repairs, flowers or treats for volunteers.

COVID-19 vaccine
The State of Alaska expects approval for offering the COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 12-15 starting next week. CCMC would like to gauge how many parents are interested. Please call 907-424-3045 or sign up at www.cdvcmc.com.

Call for submissions
The Catch, a new electronic quarterly, is calling for submissions in poetry, short fiction, essay, photography, and art, to be submitted at jillian.cordovapubliclibrary@gmail.com. Submissions are due by June 15 and should not exceed 1 MB in size.

Live Gospel Music
Join Belle Mickleson from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays to play live gospel music for Cordova Community Medical Center residents. Open to those who are fully vaccinated. Masks required.

Federal Tax Deadline
The Treasury Department and the IRS announced that the 2020 individual federal income tax filing due date will be automatically extended from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021. The IRS is not extending the estimated tax payment which will still be due by April 15. Details on this extension are in Notice 2021-21, posted on IRS.gov.

Local Recycling
Fishing web, free of non-nylon materials (cork and lead line), can be dropped off at the Cordova City Baler in the fishing web recycling container. Lead acid battery recycling is located behind the NVE building on Nicholoff Way. Small batteries can be recycled at the Post Office. The City of Cordova recycles paper/cardboard, aluminum cans and glass at the lot behind AC. Join the Recycling Action Team by calling Shae Bowman at 907-424-3334 or emailing shae@copperriver.org.

Food Drive
Help Cordovans in need by donating your canned goods, non-perishable, and frozen items. The Native Village of Eyak is a food pantry for the Food Bank of Alaska at 110 Nicholoff Way. Call them at 907-424-7738 in the case of food emergencies. The Salvation Army has reopened their food bank at 514 1st St. on Main Street. Call Pastor Steve at 907-429-6262 to donate or receive food.

COVID-19 Vaccine Sign-Up
All Cordovans who want to receive the COVID-19 vaccine are asked to register at CDVCMC.com or call 907-424-3045. If registered, you will receive a call to set up an appointment as soon as you are eligible, and the vaccine is available.

Local COVID testing
Ilanka Community Health Center offers testing from 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday and Fridays downstairs across from the Episcopal Church. Call 907-424-3622 to pre-register. The Cordova Community Medical Center offers testing as needed at the ambulance bay. Call 907-424-8000 to pre-register.

TEEN/YA Art
6-8 p.m. every Wednesday in the Education Room at the Cordova Center for ages 13 and up. Email paula@cordovalibrary.org if you wish to attend. Drop-ins welcome.
